May of 2006, I loaded my bicycle with camping gear and set off across the salt flats towards Nevada. My ultimate destination was San Francisco, where I met up with two college buddies, and set off along the Pacific Coast for Oregon. Follow the link to read an essay about the third day of that tour.

Summer of 2008, I rode by bicycle around southern Utah. This was my third self-supported solo trip and my steepest. I'd meant to carry skis, and ride eastward, hitting classic spring ski-touring spots, starting with the LaSalle Mountains and finishing in Crested Butte. At the top of the road in the LaSalles, some 10,000 feet up, I realized I'd planned the wrong trip. After a day of bad skinning, I sent the skis home. I visited and hiked four national parks instead: Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion instead. I met some folks along the way and had innumberable adventures. Some of the images from that trip appear below.
